The impulsive noise reduction using it's replica signal under Class-A impulsive channel

Abstract

In Power Line Communication (PLC), Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme is used mainly. In OFDM transmission, performance is degraded by the existence of time domain impulsive noise because the influence of impulsive noise is spread by Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), if impulsive noise adds to the OFDM time signals. This noise has very wide bandwidth and it affects all the carriers in the OFDM symbol. Moreover, transmission characteristic is extremely degraded under multi-path channel. In this paper, the impulsive noise reduction scheme using the estimated replica signal is proposed. The proposed scheme can reduce the influence of additive impulsive noise in OFDM transmission under the Middleton Class A noise for PLC system. By computer simulation, the proposed scheme is compared with the conventional schemes of clipping and nulling on the bit error performance. From the simulation results, the proposed scheme is more effective to reduce the influence of impulsive noise than the conventional schemes.
