Abstract

THE BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF DELAY ELEMENTS WITH FIXED VOLUME AND FLEXIBLE CHAMBER ARE ANALYSED USING A SIMPLE PRESSURE-VOLUME MODEL.THE INPUT SIGNAL IS ASSUMED TO BE A STEP INPUT, AND THE RELATIONS BETWEEN TIME AND PRESSURE ARE CALCULATED IN CHARGING AND DISCHARGING DURATIONS.THE CALCULATED PRESSURE ARRIVES AT THE SATURATION PRESSURE IN A LIMITED DURATION.AS THE FLEXIBLE CHAMBER, TWO TYPES OF BELLOWS ARE USED IN THE EXPERIMENT.THE LINEARITY BETWEEN THE PRESSURE AND THE VOLUME IS FAIRLY GOOD.THE CALIBRATED PRESSURE TRANSDUCERS (TOYODA PMS5-5H) ARE USED AND THE OSCILLOGRAMS ARE RECORDED BY A LINEAR MOTION INKING OSCILLOGRAPH.THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS WITH THE POLYTROPIC CONSTANT N BIGGER THAN ONE, SHOW CURVES SIMILAR TO THOSE CALCULATED WITH N # 1.0, IN BOTH CHARGING AND DISCHARGING OF FLEXIBLE CHAMBERS.(A).
